What will I study?

During the course, learners will study a range of aviation and travel-related topics, including the UK and international travel and tourism industry, airport operations, customer service, aviation communication, health, safety and security, passenger handling, and the customer journey. Learners will also explore the role of cabin crew and wider aviation careers through practical activities, industry-related scenarios, presentations, research projects, and employer-focused assignments, developing the transferable skills needed for progression into further study or employment.

Our tutors are industry professionals and ex-cabin crew staff, who have excellent links to major airlines flying from Gatwick and Heathrow. We have regular visitors from leading airlines and tour operators who play a vital role in the learning experience. The employment unit prepares all candidates for interview selection.

What previous qualifications or experience do I need?

Minimum four grade 3-9 at GCSE or successful completion of the Level 1 course, and English or maths at grade 3. Minimum age 17 years old at the start of the course.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment for this qualification is designed to reflect the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required within the aviation and travel industries. Learners will be assessed through a range of internally assessed assignments and practical activities rather than relying solely on traditional examinations. Assessment methods may include written assignments, research projects, professional reports, presentations, role plays, case studies, scenario-based tasks, and the production of industry-related materials. Learners will also take part in practical activities that replicate real workplace situations, enabling them to demonstrate customer service, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills in aviation and travel contexts. Assessment is varied throughout the course, allowing learners to showcase their achievements in a range of realistic and industry-relevant settings.

What can I do after completing this course?

The course also provides a strong foundation for a range of careers within the aviation and travel industries. Learners may progress into roles such as Cabin Crew, Airport Customer Service Agent, Passenger Service Agent, Ground Operations Assistant, Airline Customer Service Advisor, Airport Lounge Host, Aviation Operations Assistant, or Travel Consultant. In addition, the transferable skills developed throughout the programme, including communication, teamwork, customer service, problem-solving, and professional conduct, are highly valued by employers across the wider travel, tourism, hospitality, and customer service sectors.

Are there any extra costs?

As part of preparing for employment within the travel and tourism industry, learners are expected to maintain high standards of professional presentation, punctuality, attendance, and conduct throughout the course. A smart course uniform is required to support participation in industry events, employer engagement activities, and practical learning experiences, with an estimated cost of approximately £100. In addition, learners should budget for approximately £50 to contribute towards educational visits, industry trips, and enrichment activities that enhance their understanding of the sector and provide valuable real-world experience. Costs may vary slightly depending on the opportunities available during the academic year.

If you have not yet achieved Grade 4 or above in GCSE English and/or Maths, you will study these subjects alongside your main programme as part of your study programme, helping you to develop the skills required for further study and employment. Achieving strong English and mathematical skills is highly valued across the aviation, travel, and tourism industries.

Learners will benefit from training in our replica Airbus A320 cabin, providing a realistic airline environment in which to develop industry-relevant knowledge and skills. The aircraft is used to support learning across a range of topics, including customer service, passenger operations, health and safety, emergency procedures, communication, teamwork, and professional standards. This hands-on experience enables learners to gain valuable insight into the day-to-day responsibilities of aviation professionals and provides authentic exposure to working within a commercial aircraft environment.
