Psychology A Level

During the next two years, you will develop an understanding of the scientific methods used by psychologists. You will learn the four key techniques for collecting and analysing data, self-report, experiment, observation and correlation. We will also teach you the five main approaches in Psychology.

Psychology is based on empirical evidence, so a love for looking at data, researching, and problem-solving means you will do well in this subject. Over the two years you will study:

• Psychopathology Psychology in context
• Approaches in psychology
• Biopsychology
• Research methods
• Scientific processes
• Data handling and analysis
• Inferential testing Issues

Plus one from each subsection:

• Relationships/Gender/Cognition and development
• Schizophrenia/Eating behaviour/Stress
• Aggression/Forensic psychology/Addiction

Our general entry criteria to study 3 A-Levels is: Minimum five GCSEs grade 4-9 with English Language or Maths at grade 5. For a mixed Level 3 programme the criteria are: Minimum five GCSEs grade 4-9 with English Language or Maths at grade 4. Subject specific entry criteria apply: A GCSE grade 4 in English Language, grade 5 in Maths, and a grade 4 in a Science subject.

There are three exams at the end of the second year. The exams are two hours long, and are each worth 33.3% of the A-Level.

At the end of year two you will achieve Psychology A Level.

Once you have finished this course, you can go on to study related subjects at university. This subject combines well with other university courses such as teaching, nursing, medicine, criminology.

You will need to buy the recommended course text book and pay towards additional support materials. There may be additional costs for trips and conferences but these are voluntary.

This subject blends well with other humanities or social science subjects.
