Film Studies A-Level is a fantastic course that combines the academic with the creative.
You will get the opportunity to learn about a wide range of films, from the mainstream La La Land to the more challenging Trainspotting. Films from all eras are explored, including the Golden Age of Hollywood and controversial international films such as Taxi Tehran.
Alongside the analysis of films, you will have the opportunity to learn about screenwriting and produce your own short film.
You'll be taught by our experienced tutor, Joe Tindall, and benefit from our excellent links with The Depot Lewes, a new Arthouse cinema, which holds regular A-Level study days for you. You will also have the chance to premiere your own movies at The Deport and meet regularly for your own Film Club. In recent years, we've enjoyed Film-related trips to New York, Berlin, and Disneyland Paris.
Our general entry criteria to study 3 A-Levels is: Minimum five GCSEs grade 4-9 with English Language or Maths at grade 5. For a mixed Level 3 programme the criteria are: Minimum five GCSEs grade 4-9 with English Language or Maths at grade 4. Subject specific entry criteria apply: A GCSE grade 4 in English Language.
The course is assessed 30% coursework and 70% examinations.
Once you have successful completed this course, you will achieve a full A-Level in Film Studies graded A*-E.
This course can provide a pathway to employment or as a foundation for a more specialised study of film or media at university.
The Illuminate A-Level Film Studies textbook will be very useful in supporting your learning. An upfront charge of £30 will be used for A-Level study days at The Depot cinema in Lewes.
The course is taught in a specialised room with large screen projection facilities. We have a very extensive selection of film, books, and media in our Learning Resource Centre.
