Film students get the opportunity to learn about a wide range of films from mainstream Hollywood productions to more challenging international independent films. Films from all eras are explored including the Golden Age of Hollywood and controversial international films such as Taxi Tehran. Alongside the analysis of films, all students will have the opportunity to learn about screenwriting and produce their own short film.employing their knowledge of cinematography and narrative theory.

Our general entry criteria to study 3 A-Levels is: Minimum five GCSEs grade 4-9 with English Language or Maths at grade 5. For a mixed Level 3 programme the criteria are: Minimum five GCSEs grade 4-9 with English Language or Maths at grade 4. Subject specific entry criteria apply: A GCSE grade 4 in English Language.
The course is assessed 30% coursework and 70% examinations.
On successful completion of year 2 you will achieve a full A level in Film Studies
This course can provide a pathway to employment or as a foundation for a more specialised study of film or media at university.
The Illuminate A-Level Film Studies textbook, will be very useful in supporting learning. Trips and visits may incur addition costs.
The course is taught in a specialised room with large screen projection facilities. The College LRC has a very extensive selection of film books and DVDs.
