The Foundation Diploma in Heath & Social Care & Childcare is a one-year course, aimed at preparing students for progression in either the field of Health & Social Care or Childcare.

You will study ten units in total: • Four mandatory units. o Being Organised o Developing a Personal Development Plan o Working with Others o Research • Six optional units. o Communication o Advising Others about Healthy Lifestyles o Measuring Older Adult’s Fitness for Everyday Tasks o Making Healthy Snacks o Creative Activities o Using Adaptive Equipment Safely
You will need to demonstrate an ability to achieve Level 1 English and maths by the end of the course through an initial assessment.
During the course you will complete an end of unit assignment for each unit as listed above. The assessment methods used are varied, and include short written assignments, case studies, as well as workbooks and practical observations.
You will achieve a BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Health & Social Care
After the course you will be able to progress either to our level 2 programmes in Health & Social Care or Childcare dependent on how well you achieve in your study programme including your outcomes in English & Maths. This may be through our academic courses, or via an apprenticeship.

Whilst this is a new course for 22/23 our students generally speak extremely highly of their experience within our department. Student satisfaction is high in our area with students regularly reporting how well they enjoy their courses, how supportive tutors are, how the teaching is effective, and that courses are generally enjoyable and rewarding. Students who take our courses either achieve their chosen progression route, gain places at university or gain employment in the area of Childcare or Health & Social Care they are most interested in.
