The level 2 Art and Design course is designed to provide students with an interest in art and design an opportunity to explore some of the materials methods and processes of many art and design activities. The qualification will also help students to begin to develop related technical skills and to build a portfolio of art and design work. Learning will be through practical activities and projects. Students will be encouraged to explore and experiment and to experience a wide range of art and design methods to develop creativity and a professional and responsible approach to learning. Activities may include drawing, animation, graphics, typography, illustration, 3D model making, textiles, printmaking and the use of new technologies.
Minimum four grade 3-9 at GCSE or successful completion of the Level 1 course, and English or maths at grade 3. A portfolio of work will be required.
Assessment throughout the course will be formative to support and encourage learning and provide an opportunity for feedback. Only the final unit will be graded to allow students the best opportunity to achieve. The final units require students to research, organize, plan, produce and present a personal project.
You will achieve the UAL Level 2 in Art & Design qualification
This course can provide a pathway on to the Extended Diplomas in Art and Design or Creative Media, or other appropriate vocational programmes. Past students have progressed successfully on to courses in photography, media and games design, illustration, furniture design, product design, graphic design, design crafts, textiles and fashion design.
You may be asked to put aside some money for materials and equipment; typically £50-70 over the year.
When invited to interview you will be asked to bring a selection of recent art, design or media work with you.
