You will study and specialise in one of a range of art and design areas, including textiles, fashion, furniture, product, crafts (wood, metal, plastic, ceramics, glass, etc.), interior, jewellery, architecture, theatre, costume, graphics, illustration, animation, photography, film, printmaking, painting, sculpture and fine art. Your studio practice will be supported by contextual studies.

This intensive and exciting course is diagnostic in its first stage, during which you will develop your research and drawing work into a comprehensive range of both two and three dimensional options. You will have a chance to study: Textile and Fashion Design; Furniture, Product and Interior Design, Metal/Wood/Plastics/Ceramics; Theatre and Costume Design; Graphic Design, Illustration, Digital Image Manipulation and New Media; Photography; Printmaking, Painting, Sculpture, Fine Art. This is complemented by work in Contextual Studies, enhanced with field study work and visits to relevant exhibitions. You will be taught by a range of practising designers and artists. The course will fully support and help you prepare a portfolio for HE application or employment.
Minimum five grade 4-9 at GCSE including English or maths, and successful completion of the Level 3 course or 2 A Levels.A portfolio of work will be required.
You will be formally assessed at half termly points throughout the year. Assessment on this course is a process in which you can learn to make judgements about your achievements. The final major project is externally assessed.
On successful completion you will achieve the UAL Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art and Design at pass, merit or distinction
This course can provide a pathway to universities and colleges throughout the UK, and in specialist subject areas across the spectrum of art and design practice.
Specialist materials and equipment are provided. An estimated maximum cost of £500 should cover your personal expenditure on equipment and materials during the course.
