The Foundation Diploma provides the opportunity to consolidate and develop all the practical and conceptual skills you need to strengthen your application to some of the top universities in the country. Lecturers will use their experience to guide you through a series of masterclasses, workshops and seminars in all things creative. You will be encouraged to develop an independent attitude and approach to your work, managing your own learning as an emerging artist or designer.

During this one-year course, you will have the creative freedom to explore your ideas as you undertake personal projects, work on briefs, and focus on creative outcomes in a range of creatives endeavours.
This foundation year is all about preparing and strengthening your portfolio so you can progress to university.
You will enjoy a series of masterclasses, workshops and seminars taught by our expert tutor and guest lecturers of visiting artists. You will have your own dedicated workspace and be able to use a range of materials to create your work.
Minimum five grade 4-9 at GCSE including English or maths, and successful completion of the Level 3 course or 2 A Levels.A portfolio of work will be required.
Your assessment will consist of three core projects, of which the final project will determine the final grade.
Once you have completed this course, you will achieve a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, awarded by UAL.
Once you have completed this course, you will have the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of many other successful students who have gone on to study at prestigious institutions, including The Slade, Goldsmiths, Central Saint Martins, and Ruskin.
The contacts you have built up during the course may present you with career opportunities in graphic design, animation, web design, photography, illustration or fine art.
You may be required to purchase your own materials such as sketchbooks, pens, paints, brushes, and memory sticks. You may also have the opportunity to attend a number of trips and visits, which may incur additional costs.
If you are over 19, then course fees may apply. However, this qualification is approved for an advanced learner loan, so you may be able to cover the cost with the loan.
